Essential Oils to Balance Your Chakras
Both aromatherapy and chakra work are a vital part of traditional Indian medicine, known as Ayurvedic medicine. Aromatherapy uses oils from plants and other botanical in a highly concentrated form, the essence, in order to heal and enhance mood.
Essential oils can be used to balance your chakras in a number of ways. They can be inhaled, used for massage, or incorporated into homemade personal care products to balance and move the energy from your chakras to promote health and boost body, mind and spirit.
We have 7 chakras that house a number of different kinds of energy. Certain essential oils can balance or revitalize that energy. The 7 chakras, their locations, and some suggested essential oils that can enhance them are as follows:
1-The Root Chakra, buttocks and anus-stability, life’s essentials
cinnamon
ginger
patchouli
2-The Navel Chakra, bellybutton,-passion, creation, procreation
geranium
orange
sandalwood
3-The Solar Plexus Chakra, the gap in your rib cage where it divides-willpower and personal power
frankincense
lemon
myrrh
4-The Heart Chakra, the center of your chest-love, compassion, empathy
eucalyptus
peppermint
rose
5-The Throat Chakra, your neck-communication
chamomile
geranium
lavender
6-The Third Eye Chakra, between your eyes and just above the bridge of your nose-intuition, wisdom
bergamot
lemon
orange
7-The Crown Chakra, the top of your head-higher self
frankincense
jasmine
ylang ylang
Essential oils are very much a matter of personal preference. Some of the oils are floral, others very woodsy. Some are ideal for women, and others for men. Go to your local health food store to see what essential oils they stock. Sniff the testers and make notes won which ones you like best, or those that would suit your partner also if you want to do chakra massage together.
No matter which essential oils you choose, safety first. Treat your essential oils as you would any other medicine in your house. Keep out of reach of children and pets and follow all safety and dilution instructions.
Dilute for massage using what is termed a carrier oil, using 3 to 5 drops per 4 ounces of oil in most cases. Good choices of carrier oil include coconut oil and olive oil.
One other important consideration is to avoid using citrus-based oils like orange and lemon before you are going to go out into the sun, because they can make your skin more sensitive to sunburn.
The scent and effects of essential oils can be a sensual and uplifting part of your chakra work to energize and balance your life.
